What happened to the coral reefs?

There’s no question that the world’s coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate. Today, there is less than half as much coral cover in the Caribbean as there was in the 1970s. On some reefs, just a small fraction of the corals remain alive. The reasons are complicated. Scientists believe that changing ocean temperatures, disease, boating, and overfishing have all contributed to the problem.
